Bid 3 by Opener - After Responder SUPPORTS the opener's suit

If the responder rebids the opener's suit, the responder is SUPPORTING the opener's suit. The partnership has found the suit to play. The responder has the minimum number of cards required to make an 8-card fit in that suit. The level of the reponder's bid (Bid 2) indicates the point count range of the responder's hand. The opener's Bid 3 is based upon the opener's point count range.

× Opener's Bid 1 is  1 ♠

× Opener's Bid 1 is  1 ♥

× Opener's Bid 1 is  1 ♦

× Opener's Bid 1 is  1 ♣

Bid 2 by Responder: Responder SUPPORTS the opener's suit

Responder rebids the opener's suit at the following levels:
   • 6-9 pts - single raise
   • 10-12 pts - double raise
   • 13-16 pts - triple raise or  2 NT
   • 17-20 pts Major Suit -  3 NT
   • 17-20 pts Minor Suit - quadruple raise or  3 NT

If the responder's Bid 2 is  2 NT  or  3 NT , the responder is SUPPORTING the opener's bid suit as follows:
   • If the Opener's Bid 1 is a major suit and the Responder's bid (Bid 2) is  2 NT (Jacoby) , the responder has 4+cards in the bid major suit plus 13 to 16 points, enough for a game in that major suit. The Jacoby 2 NT asks the opener to show its hand features in hopes of exploring a slam bid. (See the web page for the Jacoby 2NT response for more information.) The opener can make a bid to show features, or just bid game level in that major suit.
   • If the Opener's Bid 1 is a minor suit and Responder's bid (Bid 2) is  2 NT , the responder has 5+cards in the bid minor suit plus 13 to 16 points, enough for a game in No Trump, but not enough for a game in that minor suit. The opener can make a bid to  3 NT , or with enough points, bid 5-level game in that minor suit.
   • If the Responder's Bid 2 is  3 NT , the partner's artificial jump-shift bid places the partnership in the range of at least a game in a minor suit. Depending upon the opener's point count range, there is planty of bidding room to bid a game or even explore a slam.
